TV Show “V” on ABC

Many of us remember back in the 80′s when a new and exciting mini series came out called V – The Final Battle. By today’s standards the story line, the concept, even the funky special effects are still pretty cool. Any kid in today’s generation X or Y era will take one look at the old show and think it’s a cheap YouTube knock off video made by someone with a camcorder and a few 3D rendering programs you can get for a couple hundred dollars, but none the less they will watch it as the very concept is exciting and – believable!

Many parents grew up watching the short lived but amazing show as it aired for the mini-series and one more short season before the ratings just didn’t hold on. This doesn’t mean that millions didn’t absolutely love the show, actually back then there was no cable tv, no satellite television worth paying the ridiculous prices for and thus the only thing they had to rely on was the Nealson ratings which weren’t very accurate either. One household per 10,000 people controlled the media. Even today however great shows adored by millions are being canceled for no apparent reason other than ratings, but that’s how it goes.

Star trek was canceled in the mid seventies but they brought it back and the rest as they say is history. More than 10 new series and several movies for many of them have made billions. V, it seems is no exception to the rule. Several months back I noticed that the show was available on one of the online “internet television” type sites like hulu an veoh, and I for one watched every available episode. You have to enjoy the awareness of how these special effects were nothing short of cutting edge in 1983, but today they can be copied by anyone with a computer and some software. None the less I remember thinking I wish they would remake this show, it’s story line is incredible and with today’s cutting edge computer generated CGI and the great strides in special effects and realism would make this show killer to watch!

It seems this wasn’t just a dream, and many thousands who flocked to watch these older episodes just may have been guinea pigs in an experiment to see if the show still had a following, or if enough people would flock to watch it. You never know when it comes to the online world, you can test things like this easily before spending any money on producing the show. Tens of thousands of people watched them.

ABC has decided to remake the show, and the ABC TV Show V has already started a buzz. Sites are now showing the trailer for the show and it looks like it’s going to be all we would imagine and more. The series of new characters are familiar, starring in shows like the 4400, and other highly liked series. Many hope this show will redeem the old version with the special effects that they simply didn’t have the technology to produce in such realism. This new version is sure to bring on ten times the fan base the old one did and if they do it right it will become the new phenomenon of the 2010 generation. Many hope it will take off like star trek did, and I can’t see why it wouldn’t! The archetypes and story lines are all preserved in this new version- after all nothing was wrong with that, but the “modern” look and feel of the show is sure to take the ABC TV Show V where no sci-fi show has gone before!

Marcus from the series ‘V’ is a pleasure to watch. Born Christopher Shyer in Downsview, Ontario on an Air Force Base he has long since made a name for himself in film and on TV. He has had roles in movies such as “Life or Something Like It” with Angelina Jolie and “Fierce People” with Donald Sutherland. His series appearances include NCIS as Kyle Boone, Without a Trace as Ken Robinson, CSI: Miami as Larry Musgrave, Smallville as Nicholas Conroy, The Practice as Lawrence O’Malley / ‘Hannibal Lecter, Jag as Cmdr. Steve Lundt. Moreover, he has had a great career on the stage making various theater appearances.

I have always been a movie fan. For many years I have enjoyed all types of genres. My favorite genre would probably have to be science fiction. The love that I have had for science fiction probably goes back to my early years of basking in the campy glory of such shows as The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, and Land of the Giants. That reminds me. What ever happened to Stefan Arngrim. Every time he’s in a movie, he never really gets top billing. If you ask me, Stephan has more than enough ability to take the lead. I always thought he would be great in a Star Trek series.

Ever since Scott Wolf landed the role of Bailey Salinger on “Party of Five” it was obvious this guy with the All American boy look would succeed. Everything from drama to comedy has landed in his repertoire. Watching him makes the viewer trust him and relax with whatever character he is portraying. It’s amazing how someone who started his career in the early 1990′s still has so much appeal and manages to look so young. His experience coupled with his baby face makes him the perfect choice for just about any role. Fans agree, it is time for Scott to be back in the lime light with a leading role.

My son came home from school the other day with an assignment to do a paper and presentation on his favorite actor. It is for his acting class, of course, and he has decided to do his project on Morris Chestnut. You might not knowthat name, but he played in Boyz N’ The Hood, GI Jane, and of course my son’s favorite, Ladder 49. I love that Chestnut is my son’s favorite actor; it seems like all of his friends idolize rappers. I prefer my boy to have a black role model who has achieved something, so he has something better to aspire to.

I just got cable TV, and one of my new favorite TV shows is “Medium”. So I’m watching the new episodes, and at the same time watching the old ones. One of the new ones I just watched had a character in it I knew I recognized from somewhere else, but I just couldn’t figure it out. Later that night it dawned on me – the actress was Morena Baccarin. I couldn’t believe I didn’t realize it sooner. She’s one of my favorite actresses, and has played in all sorts of TV shows that I like – I watched a lot of TV even before I had cable, thanks to Netflix!

If you are a fellow ‘V’ fan, then you probably know all of the wonderful actors and actresses that they have employed over the years to make this the incredible series that it became. One of my favorite members of the cast is Lourdes Benedicto. She is not only a beautiful young woman of Filipino descent; she is also an amazing actress. She plays Valerie Holt and is an indispensable addition to this great team. She has also been in a variety of other shows including 24, The Nine, Cashmere Mafia, Law and Order, NYPD Blue and ER just to mention a few.

As the mother of triplets, I became even more intrigued with the life and career of Tyler Evans on the sci-fi drama “V” on ABC. He was born Logan Huffman on December 22, 1989 in Indianapolis, IN as a triplet. This unique connection has left me with an interesting insight into the way he may have grown up. It has been documented that he restored a ’56 Mercury and then sold it to pay for acting lessons at Northern Illinois University. There he studied under Katherine Gattely. Being a quick study at age 17, he found himself in New York City pursuing his acting career.
